Author's Notes: Enjoy! :D I haven't written these two in ages, but I love them so much. Also, these parts will most likely not be in any sort of chronological order, sorry. ^^;;
Zechs sits on the pristine white couch, gazing out at the magnificent rose garden sprawling over the palace grounds. The winter freeze has finally dissipated, and the roses are in full bloom once again. The smell seems to waft upward, seeping through cracks in the floors and windows. It creeps under his defenses, triggering the memory of gloved fingers on the back of his neck, running up through his hair. He shivers and shifts, trying to dislodge the unwelcome sensory overload, erase the smell of romance, sex, and death.
Duo sits across the room, staring at a computer screen. The same media vid plays over and over, sound muted. A dashing young man with cobalt eyes strides confidently towards the camera, a young, beautiful woman on his arm. She's wearing the wedding dress of the century, says the caption beneath them. A breeze scented with rose brushes Duo's hair, and he absently wonders how long it's been since he last moved, last blinked. He can't tell anymore when his eyes are open or closed, because that almost smile on the groom's face is burned into his eyelids, his retinas, his skull.
Duo makes the first move, as he often does. The image begins to explode behind his eyeballs, and it's too damn much, and he's across the room in a flash, straddling the Lightning Count, lips pressing against soft, unresisting lips. Tongues dance in an effort to banish the loneliness, the distance, the ghosts. Zechs grips Duo's waist and pulls him closer, allowing the scent of passion, sex, and a living, breathing ex-pilot to overwhelm him, keep him in the present. Duo opens his eyes, seeing only the Lightning Count and his blond, luxurious hair spilled against the back of the couch.
The sun rises on an empty patch of land, broken leaves and stems the only evidence that these grounds used to house the most expansive rose garden on the planet. Duo stares blankly out the window as dozens of gardeners begin working the rich soil, scattering new seeds. "What are they doing?"
Zechs wraps his arms around him as they watch the transformation. "Planting violets."
