Down by your wall I feel awake
I am alone accepting my fate
Heero sat at his desk, remembering the pained look of betrayal in Duo's eyes. I brought this on myself. I deserve the misery I brought down on myself.
I have the answers twisting around me
I have found the answers of what I should be
He smiled grimly, resolving to carry out the plans he had made for himself.
Down by your wall I want you to stay
I think of the place that ran you away
Duo sat on the couch in the apartment he and Zechs shared. He was sad that the friendship he'd had with Heero had ended on such a sour note. Don't all relationships end sourly? He thought he understood how Zechs had felt when he heard Treize and Wufei together.
I catch the rain that turns me to rust
I stand in the flame that turns me to dust
Why do I feel so guilty? He's the one who was lying to me - to all of us - for a week. You're the one who rejected him in the first place. But he drove me to it! His conscience made arguments with itself, as tears ran unstopped down the boy's cheeks. The anger he felt at being betrayed by someone whom he wanted to be a good friend overwhelmed him.
Zechs stood across the room watching him. He wanted so desperately to walk across the room and take the boy, who was sitting on the couch with his arms hugging his knees, into his arms and kiss away his tears. He started to move, then stopped.
Duo's head turned, and he opened his eyes. They begged Zechs to comfort him.
I can't believe
That you might believe I'll heal you
He wants my support? He didn't know what to think. No one had ever asked him to comfort him before. The fact that this boy whom he loved wanted his help - needed it - brought a lump to his throat. He swallowed it down as he crossed the room to envelop the sobbing boy in his arms and kiss away the tears.
Heero lifted the bottle to his lips again. He'd carefully copied the lines he'd written the night before and torn the page from his notebook. Now it was time to finish his plans. Taking the blade in his right hand, he drew it as carefully as he could across the length of his left arm. A line of blood began weeping from the mark. Just like the tears from my eyes. He took the blade in his other hand and did the same thing on his other arm.
Heero wondered how long it would take.
I can't believe
That you might believe I want to at all
That I want to at all
Now that I will never get you back, I have no reason to continue. He watched the growing pool of blood around him until blackness overtook him.
